"THE LOST BRIDE IN THE BROKEN DREAM".
Photo Exhibition by Rinat Zemach Levy and Mali Aroesti
A Feminist Activist Artwork- A series of photographs presents the distance between the legendary image of the bride on her wedding day as opposed to actual life as a wife and mother, life which are complex and complicated.
The project presents various scenes from daily routine: preparing lunch, playing in the playground and more. The gap between the white and the magnificent dress and the daily actions during the day create stress and dissonance which raises the conflict between the dream of marriage and the life of the marriage itself.
The exhibition is divided into four parts: the dream phase, the birth phase, the family mode and the last phase of the disillusionment. In the first stage, the bride is presented in a dreamlike manner, lying with her eyes closed and surrounded by endless objects representing the physical and emotional burden a woman has in housekeeping and raising children: toys, groceries, books, kitchenware and clothing.
The bride prepares lunch, part of the daily routine as a mother, the kitchen is messy and the white dress is stained. she is not in the center of the stage but serves the needs of the other.
In the second stage, the bride is observed in the birth process that has a moment of life and death: life about bringing a new baby into the world and the death of the old and former identity.
The Expansion Phase
The third part shows the day-to-day activities of home and family maintenance: endless and endless actions: cooking, cleaning and spending time with the children.
In this part the bride is no longer alone and the children and husband are joined as well. The bride and her partner are no longer the same prince and princess who were dreaming of the anniversary, but two tired and exhausted people lying down like two corpses on the bed, energy-less to approach and manage intimacy.
the final station in life where there is disillusionment. She is observing what she has done, her mistakes and her past life. it is a phase that expresses ending and separation that are an integral part of the life cycle.
The moon symbolizes consciousness at night, dreaming and the irrational part of the soul. The bride looks to the horizon and is ready to travel, she will be reborn to the next station that awaits her. It is a journey that never ends, of a beginning and an end as part of the wheel of life.
